It was another active weekend with strong to severe thunderstorms across the Central U.S.. According to NOAA’s SPC, there were nearly 40 tornado reports on Saturday alone, some of which occurred in Minnesota for the first time since September 19th, 2014.

2015 PRELIMINARY Tornado Data

According to NOAA’s SPC, there have been 460 PRELIMINARY tornado reports this year, 234 of which (through May 18th) have occurred this month. Interestingly, 4 out of the 10 top tornado days of 2015 have occurred this month as well, the highest being 5/06/15 with 69 reports.

The PRELIMINARY 460 tornadoes  so far, puts 2015 still nearly 160 reports behind the 2005-2014 average of 623 reports (through May 17th). Interestingly, in 2011 and 2008, there were more than 1,000 tornado reports through this date.
