According to the National Interagency Fire Center, there are several large wildfires across the western part of the country. One of the largest in the Lower 48 is located in Idaho, which has consumed nearly 200,000 acres.
Meanwhile, in California, two large wildfires merged north of the San Francisco Bay area this week. The Rocky fire near 70,000 acres (95% contained) and the Jerusalem fire (22% contained) have been responsible for nearly 100 structures destroyed. The good news is that evacuations have been lifted for the Rocky fire, but mandatory evacuations continue for the Jerusalem fire with 50 structures still threatened.
Upper level winds continue to push thick smokes plumes east over parts of Canada and into the Midwest. Looks for smoky sunrises and sunsets over the next several days where shades of red and yellow are located below.
